This is the current pinnacle of Sony G Master lens engineering, and it is breathtaking. For a lens so incredibly sharp and fast, it is suprisingly compact and lightweight.

You get all of Sony's latest optical goodness, including multiple XA (extreme aspherical) lenses, which is a technology unique to them, involving incredibly accurate surface finishes. The upshot is a reduction in all kinds of aberrations (engineering talk for "problems"), and a bokeh that is incredibly pleasing to the eye just like all G Master lenses.

Another technology that makes for great bokeh is the 11-bladed circular aperture. Sony created an entirely new design, with an emphasis on compactness so that the overall lens size could be kept manageable.

Focus accuracy is absolutely paramount when using a fast f/1.2 lens, so here again, Sony designed a new system to make sure you get the most accurate, quiet, and fast autofocus performance possible.

All of these things combine to create a truly world-class lens. We can drone on and on about the engineering that went into it, but at the end of the day, we all want a reasonably sized lens that works well and produces stunning imagery.
