Sony's workhorse camera has been updated with some new features to keep it fresh and enticing. While it uses the same sensor as its predecessor (the venerable A7 IV), Sony have added an all-new AI-based autofocus system to improve focusing speed an accuracy across a wide variety of situations for both photo and video. They have also added 8K video capabilities along with an incredible 8 stops of IBIS (in body stabilization).
If you want detail, this is the body for you. Boasting 61 Megapixels of resolution, the A7R V can capture images that are so detailed, you can zoom in and see every single detail. There's also 5-axis IBIS (in body stabilization), which will help keep your shots steady even if you're using longer lenses or shooting video.
The new AI-based autofocus system has been improved to allow for faster and more accurate focusing in a variety of situations. This is especially beneficial when using tracking modes for humans, animals, insects, and even vehicles such as cars & trains! The A7R V also has 8K video capabilities, which means you can record 8K footage at 24 fps with full pixel readout for higher quality.
When shooting video, you can use the S-Cinetone profile to deliver distinct colors and healthy-looking skin tone rendering that matches the FX9, FX6, a1, and a7S III cameras and is based on technology from the VENICE professional Cinema Line cameras. This color profile offers natural mid-tones, soft colors, and especially well-controlled highlights.
There's no doubt that this update is more of an evolution rather than revolution, but we think the improved focus system and other new features are well worth it. Why fix it if it ain't broke?
