"Probe" is one of those words that often has a negative connotation. But rest assured, this is the kind of probe that you want to get. Wait...that doesn't sound right. Just trust us; this is a very cool and very useful lens in the right situation. That being said, you might not want to tell your friends that you "got a probe to play around with this weekend". Just saying...

As you can tell by the photos, this lens has an alien design (oops, bad choice of words) with a long "snout" on it. What you might not know is that it is both waterproof and has a built-in LED light on the end. And while it is certainly longer than most other lenses, this design allows you to put the lens into some places that are unreachable with conventional lenses. Think underwater shots and insect burrows as just two of a myriad examples. The light is powered by USB, and a cable with on/off and brightness adjustments is included for your convenience. We recommend using a USB battery pack if you want to use the light in the field.

This macro lens gives you up to a 2:1 magnification ratio (double life size). However, it is also able to focus to infinity, giving you lots of flexibility. Speaking of focus, like many macro lenses, this one is manual focus only.

This version is the "cine" model, which is exactly the same as the photo version except the two adjustment rings (aperture and focus) are geared for easy use with video follow focus systems.

Please note: The title of this listing is not a typo: the max aperture on this lens really is f/14 and closes down to f/40 from there. But you generally wouldn't shoot macro at larger apertures anyway, and the super-bright waterproof LED on the end helps add light exactly where it is needed most. So all in all, that dark aperture setting isn't a deal-breaker like you might assume.
