This camera is like your favorite jacket, or that comfy pair of jeans that fits just right. Comfortable, trustworthy, there for you when you need it. Sure, there are other cameras that have a higher this or a faster that. But all too often those extra features bring extra complexities and headaches. It's like a good trail horse versus a high-strung race horse. Which would you rather ride more frequently?

But enough with the similies. Let's get into the specs and see why this camera body works so well. The foundation of the camera is a 20MP sensor combined with a DIGIC X processor. This combination allows for burst photography up to 12 fps (mechanical shutter), 20 fps (electronic shutter), 4K video up to 60 fps, and full HD video up to 120 fps. It also gives you a native ISO range from 100 to 102400. This gives you tremendous flexibility in the kinds of environments you can shoot, from brightly lit scenes to darker situations. The shutter also has a huge range, from 1/8000 all the way to 30 seconds.

On the video side of things, you get 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording as well as access to Canon Log for extra color grading lattitude in post. Access to 4K60 is huge if you're shooting action or sports, and 120 frames per second at 1080p is awesome for slow-motion effects. You can also send out a "clean" 4:2:2 10-bit signal via HDMI.

The final feature to highlight is the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system. This system is generally regarded as one of the best AF systems currently on the market due to its speed, accuracy, and smoothness. It has over 1000 selectable focus points that cover nearly 100% of the frame. For still shooters, it is optimized for both single-release performance as well as tracking moving subjects, where nailing focus is critically important. On the video side, this system offers the same benefits as for photo use, and also adds the ability to rack/pull focus smoothly via a touch-screen interface. There is also eye-tracking for both humans and animals.

All of this adds up to a solid camera that does so many things well.
