Somehow the magicians at Sony were able to remove nearly 30% of the weight compared to its predecessor, without giving up any performance. If anything, they've made the performance better, with an improved optics package as well as a newly-designed autofocus system that is faster and more accurate than ever.

They've also improved some things specific to video. Namely they've added a manual aperture ring (click or de-click) and improved the focus breathing shift, nearly eliminating it altogether. Next, they added full-time Direct Manual Focus (DMF), which makes it easy to make quick adjustments using the focus ring while in AF modes. It really is a new standard for when your shoot calls for a medium telephoto lens.
