This is the widest non-fisheye full frame prime lens in Sony's lineup (as of this writing), and is an excellent addition to your wide angle lens kit.
We love it for landscapes and astrophotography as well as all kinds of cinema use (30mm equivalent field of view on Super35 sensors). It is incredibly small and light, making it a nearly perfect lens to "fly" on a gimbal.
Like many of Sony's prime G lenses, this one has a manual aperture adjustment ring, which you can also leave in Auto mode to let the camera settings decide. If you decide to use it manually, you can have it "click" at each setting, or flip the switch to activate a "de-clicked" mode for smooth and silent aperture pulls.
The optical package is state-of-the-art, with three ELD abd 2 aspherical elements as well as a Nano AR Coating to improve contrast and reduce ghosting and flare.
Autofocus duties are adeptly handled by the dual XD linear motor system, giving you fast, nearly silent, and accurate focus.
