At long last, Sony has graced us with a super telephoto zoom lens. This is a perfect match for shooting sporting events, wildlife, and anything you need to bring close-up. Can you say "Police stake-out"? Sony pulled out all of the stops with the engineering on this lens, giving it a bevy of aspherical and low dispersion elements as well as a Nano AR coatings to minimize ghosting and control flare.

For you bokeh addicts out there, this lens has an 11-bladed circular aperture for those super-creamy out of focus backgrounds. It also uses Sony's latest focus innovation, called the Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave Motor. You probably think I'm making that up, but that's really what it's called. Sounds like something NASA invented to go to Mars. But what it actually does is give you incredibly fast and accurate autofocus with full-time manual override. Also coming in on the technology front is the latest generation of the Sony Optical Stabilization System or OSS. Giving you more than 4 stops of correction for hand-held shake, it helps make a lens like this actually usable at relatively slow shutter speeds.

Speaking of hand-holding, Sony did a nice job keeping the weight down on this lens, making it relatively compact and lightweight, especially considering the reach you get with this thing. Again, it's a relative metric. It's still a pretty large lens, but handles like something much smaller.
