The EW series of wireless microphones by Sennheiser has long been an industry standard, and for good reason. These systems have incredibly clean audio, are easy to use, and are very reliable on set. This latest generation from them adds... Well, it doesn't add much. But that's okay. This is a good case of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Essentially the only difference between this system and the vaunted G3 is that Sennheiser changed the LCD from black-on-orange to black-on-white. Otherwise, it is the same system that you know and love. In fact, it is completely backwards compatible with the G3 series, so you can mix and match if you need to (assuming they're on the same frequency, of course). It also shares the same transmission distance (~300 feet) and battery life as its predecessor, which should give you 5-7 hours on a fresh set of alkaline AAs.

This rental comes with the ME2-II lavalier microphone, which is an omnidirectional mic that is optimized for speech and works very well for interviews or documentary use. Being omnidirectional means that your talent doesn't have to be ummmm, talented at keeping their mouth the same distance to the mic. It'll pick up their speech even when they move their head around, which is handy and will help prevent your sound person from tearing their hair out.
