I know, we all thought that the D800 and the D800E bodies became the DSLR overlords. After all, they lived up to the hype. So what could Nikon do to improve these camera bodies?

Release the D810, of course. While it’s not the beginning of a new line of Nikon bodies, this evolution is more than just a simple update to previous ones.

You don’t want to deal with the 36.3 MP file sizes of the previous versions? Oh man, we don’t blame you. Which is why we’re happy that the D810 gives you the ability to shoot in S RAW (which means reasonable file sizes)! That will make the jump up from other Nikon DSLR bodies to this one more manageable. Partner that with 5 fps (a 1 fps bump up from previous versions), wider ISO range (64 - 51,200), and EXPEED 4 for faster image processing and you’ve got yourself a stellar body.

Like the D800E, this camera body also has the optical low-pass filter removed for sharper images. Unlike the D800E though, you won’t see the same visible moire issues with some photos. Could it get any better? Glad you asked. Yes, it can. To top it all off, lets talk about how this DSLR handles video. Like a beast. You can now record 1920x1080p at 60p and use Power Aperture Control to use the Fn and Pv buttons while you have live view on. Pretty cool, huh?

On their own, the changes aren't all that earth-shattering. But taken as a whole, it all adds up to a very nice refresh of what was already considered one of the best cameras in the business. Rent the D810 today and see for yourself why now more than ever is a great time to be a photographer!
