Details
This is an excellent medium telephoto, wide aperture lens - gives amazing bokeh, depth of field, and lots and lots of light for the length class. It's also quite lightweight, especially compared to the Nikkor 200mm f/2G, but still gives similar image quality. The compression and depth of field makes it great for portraits and weddings, and the aperture and size makes it great for concerts and photojournalism.
This lens also has a feature called 'defocus control', which adjusts the bokeh (the quality of the out of focus areas in a frame). It's an interesting feature, and lets you turn backgrounds into abstract washes of color while keeping the subject in focus.
