The biggest detriment to the DX format these days isn't image quality. Nikon has engineered its way around that (for the most part). No, the biggest downside is if you want to shoot wide angle. With the DX crop, it can be hard to fit a lot of the scene in your photograph using FX lenses designed for a full-frame camera. But this lens essentially cancels out that compromise. The 10mm on the widest end is equivalent to a 15mm lens on the FX format, which is REALLY wide. In fact, you can't get any wider without going to a fisheye.
