Speed boosters like the Metabones Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x are seriously cool. The Speed Booster allows you to use full frame Canon EF (not EF-S) lenses on Sony APS-C bodies, (and full frame Sony bodies set to APS-C). Metabones Speed Boosters also, through some kind of physics-bending witchcraft, improve the optical performance of adapted lenses, increase their effective aperture by one stop and decrease the magnification (crop factor) of the APS-C sensor to 1.07x which is practically nothing. The lenses also get a nice boost in center and edge sharpness.

What does that mean in plain english? The Metabones Speed Booster makes Sony APS-C sensors look like full frame sensors when using a Canon EF lens, and they also make those full frame lenses sharper (more or less). This is achieved through some super clever optics. Also witchcraft. Ok not really, but how cool is that? And the fun doesn’t stop there. This adapter also passes through electronic communication, allowing for the use of optical image stabilization via the lens and electronic aperture control. This communication also allows for Canon CN-E lens compatibility, including lenses with power zoom, auto-iris, and autofocus. EXIF support is also maintained. Cool, huh?
