Details

The Canon CF-R20EP Cooling Fan Battery Grip is a specialized accessory designed for the Canon EOS R5 Mark II mirrorless camera. It serves a dual purpose: extending battery life and managing camera temperature during intensive video shooting sessions. The grip can work with one or two LP-E6P batteries, effectively doubling the camera's power capacity, which is essential for long-duration shoots.

One of the standout features of this grip is its integrated multi-speed cooling fan, which prevents the camera from overheating during extended 8K video recording, supporting capture times of up to 120 minutes at 8K 30p. The fan can be controlled through the camera's menu, offering options to run continuously, remain off, or activate only in standby mode. This flexibility is particularly useful in demanding production environments. But listen: this is no miracle-worker. If you're shooting in bright sunlight on a 90 degree summer day, this accessory will not prevent overheating. We think it works best on indoor shoots, in relatively room-temperature environments.

In addition to cooling, the CF-R20EP grip includes a 2.5G Base-T high-speed Ethernet port, enabling fast, tethered shooting and reliable data transfer for remote shooting or FTP file transmission. The Ethernet connection is ideal for professionals needing to quickly move large video and image files during events.

Ergonomically, the grip is designed to enhance handling, especially during vertical shooting, and it maintains the same weather-resistant construction as the EOS R5 Mark II body, making it suitable for outdoor use in challenging conditions. That being said, there are no buttons, knobs, or dials on this grip. It's function is purely to add power and cooling.

So, please moderate your expectations with this device. The fan can be loud at the high setting, it cannot compensate for a hot shooting environment indefinitely, and you cannot hot-swap the batteries. But if you need extended shooting time using a higher frame rate indoors, then this will be a welcome addition to your kit.
